Close to 20 percent of workforces could be made up of temporary workers by 2022, research report suggests

Employees from all over the world expect that office environments are likely to change considerably over the next 8 years, with only a handful expecting or looking forward to work in a traditional nine-to-five office environment, a recent report drawn up by PwC was able to reveal.

As part of their research for the new Future of Work report, PwC interviewed more than 10,000 people across China, India, Germany, the UK and the US, and found that close to 20 percent of workers see themselves working virtually, with the ability to log on from any location within the next 10 years.

The research report suggests that the large majority of HR professionals ready for these changes, with almost a quarter (24 per cent) "actively considering the evolving and multiple visions of the future" as part of their long-term business planning, while 56 per cent anticipate changes and are building possible future scenarios into their talent pipelines.

Furthermore, HR professionals predict that at least 20 per cent of their workforce will be made up of contractors or temporary workers by 2022 and almost a third are building talent strategies around people's growing desire for portfolio careers, hiring staff on a more ad-hoc basis.
