Smart Card Readers

A smartcard reader is the device that reads a smart card and tells the access control system whether to let the cardholder through. Hold a card near it and the reader powers the card's chip with a short-range radio field, reads its encrypted ID, and checks that ID against the cardholder's permissions. Based on the result it releases the door, and the same read can clock an employee in for time and attendance or log a visitor on site.

Tensor's Access Control product line supports card formats such as EM, HID 125KHZ Prox, HID iClass, MiFare, and DESFire. We also provide ID Badge Design software to help you create your Smartcards.

We provide Smartcard software, which gives you an easy way to produce your own professional ID cards with our ID Badge Designer. Simply print off adhesive labels for photos featuring your company logo in just a few seconds, and the card is ready to use. Alongside this, we can assist construction sites with our specific CSCS Card Wizard, designed for contractors and workers, or prison passes approved by HMPs around the country.

On activation of a fire alarm panel, automatic roll call reports are printed listing the names and departments of cardholders who remain on-site. Doors can be configured to open automatically on fire alarm activation. Alarms and alerts are also triggered if a door is forced open or an Anti-Tamper Sensor contact is broken by unauthorised equipment removal. 

Smartcards can be used for personal identification, authentication, data storage, and application processing. Applications for smartcards include identification, Access Control, computer security, schools, and healthcare. Smartcards may provide strong security authentication for single sign-on (SSO) within organisations.
