Recent plans to eradicate a big chunk of the national debt have caused widespread budget restructuring. For example Hampshire Constabulary are letting more than a thousand police jobs go, while plans for a new headquarters were put on hold amid the government cuts. John Denham, MP for Southampton Itchen, said: "Even local Tories admit that crime in Southampton had fallen dramatically under Labour. I can't help wondering how they feel about their superiors in Westminster recklessly cutting budgets, and putting families across the city at an increased risk."
